We updated the blog with a footnote and we have updated inaccuracies in the past as we did in the April 1 blog, but for this one in particular it was an oversight which we now have corrected. This was a genuine oversight on our part. When we realized this error on April 23, we corrected the wording to "participants". In a follow-up blog post on April 22 recapping this webinar, in addition to referring to participants as "participants", we also inadvertently referred to them as ‘users’ and "people". We want to be clear: this was first announced in our April 22 webinar as 300 million daily participants by our CEO Eric Yuan. Zoom, a provider of cloud videoconferencing solutions, has arguably seen the biggest bump-up in users, with its daily active users up 151 percent year-over-year in March. In a statement given to TechCrunch, the company says: This was an oversight on our part.Ĥ/30/20: The 4/22 blog also correctly used the term participants, but not consistently. (Zoom 2021) Zoom had over 470,000 business customers as of December 2020. (Bloomberg 2020) Zoom generated 2.6 billion in revenue in 2020, a 317 increase year-over-year. (Zoom 2020) Zoom’s daily active users increased 2,900 in the span of 4 months during 2020. In a couple of updates tacked on the end of the original blog post, Zoom says:Įdit 4/29/20: This blog originally referred to meeting participants as "users" and "people". In a Wednesday blog post addressing 'Zoombombing' and other security issues, co-founder and CEO Eric Yuan noted that in March, Zoom the number of daily meeting participants on the platform - both. Zoom surpassed 350 million daily meeting participants in 2020. The two terms are not interchangeable, and in referring to participants as users, Zoom artificially inflated numbers. DAUs and daily participants is not the same thing, with the latter referring to people who might be involved in multiple meetings per day. The problem stemmed from the fact that a blog post claiming 300 million DAUs was based on a statement made by Zoom CEO Eric Yuan that the video conferencing tool has 300 million daily participants. #Zoom daily active users updateZoom 5.0 is a major update with enhanced encryption and more security options.Facebook launches Messenger Rooms as an alternative to Zoom. #Zoom daily active users freeGoogle Meet is now free for everyone, making it a viable alternative to Zoom.
